Jake PatrickProduct & System Designer.

Hey, I’m Jake, a UK-based product and brand designer with a soft spot for mess. Give me a tangle, a knot of a problem, inconsistent patterns, a system nobody quite owns, or a product that’s overgrown and in desperate need of some untangling, and I’m happy. It’s a little sadistic of an endeavour, but it scratches the itch.

I’m currently a Staff designer at The Bang, a product and branding agency where I’ve been since 2021. These days I spend most of my time maintaining and growing the Jaguar Land Rover design system, and working with Zoopla, where I help shape their internal tooling.

Before that, I was working on modernising Jaguar Land Rover’s existing InCar Remote app and monetisation for Griptonite. The branding for Camden Community Wealth Fund was a fun side project I led along the way.

Outside client work, I’m building a few plugins and web tools to make my own design system practice less repetitive: the kind of tools I wish existed when I was doing this by hand. I’m also building Rally, a competitive sports app where you race distances against friends across whatever sport you’ve got. For any of the typography-obsessed, I created an experimental typeface called Cabbage.otf, a product of many lockdown evening noodling sessions.

I like to dive into things: projects, topics, and, as mentioned earlier, problems. Whether that’s building an app, figuring out the absolute very best hummus recipe (hummus is life, btw), or constantly iterating on my never-ending smart home.

I’d encourage everyone to dive in, explore everything, and do it on purpose. That’s the most powerful design tool I know.
